I Hear Music 06:46
I hear music I hear music, mighty fine music
The murmur of a morning breeze up there
The rattle of the milkman on the stair

Sure that's music, mighty fine music
The singing of a sparrow in the sky
The perking of the coffee right nearby That's my favorite melody
You, my angel, phoning me I hear music, mighty fine music
And anytime I think my world is wrong
I get me out of bed and sing this song

 That's my favorite melody
You, my angel, phoning me I hear music, mighty fine music
And anytime I think my world is wrong
I get me out of bed and sing this crazy song

All of Me 09:57
All of me Why not take all of me Can't you see I'm no good without you Take my lips I never use them Take my arms I want to loose them Your goodbye left me with eyes that cry How can I go on dear without you You took the part that once was my heart So why not take all of me All of me Why not take all of me Can't you see I'm no good without you Take my lips I want to loose them Take my heart I'll never use them Your goodbye left me with eyes that cry How can I go on dear without you You took the part that once was my heart So why not take all of me

Hurry, hurry, hurry Take the A-train To find the quickest way to get to Harlem If you should take the A-train You'll find you get right where you goin' If you hurry Hurry, hurry, hurry Night's coming Can't you hear the rails a-humming If you should take the A-train You'll find to get away with a hurry If you should take the A-train You'll find you get right where you goin' If you hurry Hurry, hurry, hurry Night's coming Can't you hear the rails a-humming

I get no kick from champagne. Mere alcohol doesn't thrill me at all, So tell me why should it be true That I get a kick out of you? Some get a kick from cocaine. I'm sure that if I took even one sniff That would bore me terrific'ly too, I get a kick out of you. I get a kick every time I see You're standing there before me. I get a kick though it's clear to me You obviously don't adore me. I get no kick in a plane. Flying too high with some girl in the sky Is my idea of nothing to do, Yeah baby, I get a kick out of you.

Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most Once I was a sentimental thing Threw my heart away each Spring; Now a Spring romance hasn't got a chance Promised my first dance to Winter; All I've got to show's a splinter for my little fling! Spring this year has got me feeling like a horse that never left the post; I lie in my room staring up at the ceiling Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most! Morning's kiss wakes trees and flowers And to them I'd like to drink a toast; I walk in the park just to kill lonely hours Spring Can really Hang You Up The Most All afternoon those birds twitter twit I know the tune, "This is love, this is it!" Heard it before and I know the score And I've decided that Spring is a bore! Love seemed sure around the New Year Now it's April, love is just a ghost; Spring arrived on time, only what became of you, dear? Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most! Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most! Spring is here, there's no mistaking Robins building nests from coast to coast; My heart tries to sing so they won't hear it breaking Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most! College boys are writing sonnets In the "Tender passion" they're engrossed; But I'm on the shelf with last YEAR's Easter bonnets Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most! Love came my way, I hope it would last; We had our day, now that's all in the past! Spring came along a season of SUN Full of sweet promise but SOMETHING wrong! Doctors once prescribed a tonic "Sulphur and MOLASSES" was the dose; Didn't help a bit, my condition must be chronic Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most! All alone, the party's over Old man Winter was a gracious host; But when you keep praying for snow to hide the clover Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most!

Up on the wire I like to climb and play with the sky The people far below The air is clear and I can perceive The whole world is shining Life is sublime And when you dare to go up in the air and leave the earth far behind you As I step and dip and leap into a space beyond Up high, Just for a moment Alive, and so afraid but alive As I push against the sky and my heart has broken free
Fear turns to joy When you can race the edge of the sky And life's intense and strong It's not so long before you will run Beyond your horizons Up on the wire The line is thin and you must bow and surf against the sky so precisely But the sky seems to go on as far as you can see Up high just for this moment Alive and so afraid but alive As the wire disappears And you've finally broken free Up on the wire I like to climb and play with the sky The people far below The air is clear and I can perceive The whole world is smiling Life is sublime And when you dare to go up in the air and leave the earth oh, behind you As I step and dip and leap into a space beyond Up high Just for this moment Alive and so afraid but alive As I push against the sky and my heart has broken free Broken free Broken free Up high

about

The story of this album begins with Alison Crockett’s music-loving Dad. “The house we lived in had a Bar, and next to it were huge speakers hooked up to a large state-of-the-art sound system. Every night in his home nightclub, which my mother called ‘the Florida Room’, my Dad would sit after work and play music for up to eight hours each night of my childhood. This is how I learned music.”
For her fifth recording as a leader, vocalist and composer Alison Crockett presents a live recording captured at Washington DC’s home of jazz, Blues Alley. This is the initial installment of a series of releases planned by Alison around the theme of “My Father’s Record Collection”, which will feature her interpretations of the music which informed, inspired and influenced Alison growing up within sound of her father’s Florida Room speakers. The series will reflect on the powerful legacy of Jazz and Black American Music through the very records that created the story of America presenting a journey to the past with more than a hint of the present.
Reinterpreting the classic 1982 album Echoes of an Era which featured vocalist Chaka Khan, with jazz legends Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, Freddie Hubbard, Joe Henderson and Lenny White, Alison’s energetic performance and that of her musicians, connects the spirit of jazz with the passion of the Funky Soul singer. Like Khan, Alison is steeped in beyond-jazz vocal forms, including R&B and house music. Her inimitable vocal ability has been heard on recordings by King Britt, Blue Six, Us3, Landslide, John Wicks, Sylk 130, Mathematics to name a few. She also released a series of critically acclaimed solo albums throughout the 2000’s, both under own name and notably as her alias Diva Blue. Now Alison is back with a compelling new body of work that portrays her artistry in a different light, as well as retaining all of the special elements that make Alison a stand out performer and exceptional musician.
Alison recounts. “Back in the day, there was no Soundcloud or iPod, or streaming music. You had records, and each record showed the artistic idea and emotion of the artist. My father spoke to his family through music. I learned about his thoughts and emotions through the music he played. This series is my connection to my Dad.” Who says that jazz has to be laid back, inscrutable, and something to lay back and listen to. This recording takes you on a sonic journey that makes you want to dance by yourself or with a partner, as she remembers growing up with her music loving father and his record collection.
